Cerddorfa Dinas Powys Orchestra is beginning an exciting new chapter—and is looking for new players to become part of its future.

Following the retirement of its long-serving conductor, Antony Tarlton, earlier this year, the orchestra’s players formed a new committee with a shared determination to continue its long tradition of community music-making.

Now under the musical direction of Martyn Ford, the orchestra is rebuilding with fresh energy and ambitions to become an increasingly active part of musical life in Dinas Powys and the surrounding area.

Central to those plans is welcoming new musicians. Whether you are an experienced player, have recently returned to an instrument or simply miss the enjoyment of playing as part of an ensemble, the orchestra would be pleased to hear from you.

Players will have the opportunity to explore an appealing and varied repertoire. Music currently being prepared includes Vaughan Williams’ English Folk Song Suite and The Wasps Overture, Schubert’s Rosamunde Entr’acte and celebrated Unfinished Symphony, and Mascagni’s beautiful Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana.

GGDPMF has been proud to welcome Cerddorfa Dinas Powys Orchestra to the festival on several previous occasions. We greatly value our long relationship with the orchestra and hope to support its continued development—and welcome its musicians back to the festival—in the years ahead.

Support the Orchestra’s Coffee Morning

As the relaunched orchestra rebuilds its membership and funds, everyone is warmly invited to a special fundraising coffee morning:

Social

Visitors can enjoy teas, coffees and home-made cakes while browsing handmade crafts and a small selection of plants. Chamber groups drawn from the orchestra will provide live background music throughout the morning.

Please come along, enjoy the music and refreshments, and support this much-valued local orchestra as it begins its next chapter.

Musicians interested in joining are also warmly encouraged to meet members of the orchestra and find out more.
