It is with sincere regret that we announce the cancellation of the Gwyl Gerdd Dinas Powys Music Festival 2020.

The situation regarding the spread of COVID-19 is very unique, which is why this decision has been very difficult to reach. In light of the latest government advice – paired with heightened anxieties around the recent escalation of the virus in the UK – it would not be responsible to go ahead with the Festival this summer.

The safety of our Festival Committee, Patrons, volunteers, audiences, performers, suppliers and wider community is – and always will be – of utmost importance to us. While we understand that our Festival community will be just as disappointed as we are about this outcome, we support the decision made.

We have liaised with our 2020 performers, Dinas Powys Community Council and local authorities over the past few weeks, all of whom have also been considering the best ways of assisting with the containment of the virus, in line with government advice. All parties are fully aware and in support of this decision.

The Festival was established 20 years ago with the ethos of bringing the whole community together to bring the joy of music to all. This is something we are immensely proud of but, unfortunately, this isn’t possible for us this year.

Anyone who we have been lucky enough to host at an event in the past knows just how important the Festival is to us and our community. That is why we endeavour to deliver as much musical joy as we possibly can once the immediate threat of COVID-19 has passed. While we cannot possibly know when this will be, we will be in contact in due course.

For those who have already purchased tickets to any 2020 Festival event, we will be offering full refunds – please get in touch at info@dpmusfest.co.uk. We are in the process of contacting all Patrons.

From all of us on the Festival Committee, we would like to extend our wishes of good health and our very warmest thanks for your continued support and patience while we work through this ever-changing situation. We promise to deliver something exciting when it’s safe to do so.

Kindest regards,

The Gwyl Gerdd Dinas Powys Music Festival Committee

FAQs

Why has the 2020 Festival been cancelled?

The situation regarding the spread of COVID-19 is very unique, which is why the decision to cancel the Festival has been very difficult to reach. In light of the latest government advice – paired with heightened anxieties around the recent escalation of the virus in the UK – it would not be the responsible thing to do to go ahead with the Festival.

Based on recent information coming from the Government, it has been advised that we are likely to still be experiencing the effects of COVID-19 for the coming 12-14 weeks across the country and the world. Based on this estimate, this would take us through the main two weeks of the Festival and other additional events (Festival events were scheduled to be held on 21 March, 5 April, 1-17 May and 27 June 2020).

Where we host concerts for groups such as schools and care homes, we provide transport to and from respective venues. As a result, we could risk further cross-contamination during transport and by mixing large numbers of people from various communities – which could include more vulnerable individuals – together.

The safety of our Festival Committee, Patrons, volunteers, audiences, performers, suppliers and wider community is – and always will be – of utmost importance to us. By cancelling the Festival, and therefore minimising the risk of cross-contamination between all parties and containing the spread of the virus, we believe the decision is the most responsible outcome.

Have free events been cancelled too?

Yes. All 27 scheduled events detailed in the brochure and online have, unfortunately, been cancelled.

What about the ticket sale event?

Due to the cancellation of the 2020 Festival, no further tickets are to be sold for this year’s programme, effective immediately. This means the annual ticket sale event, schedule to be held at The Star from 9am on Saturday 21 March 2020 will not be proceeding and is also cancelled.

Please do not attend.

Online and telephone ticket orders are also deactivated with immediate effect.

Please see below for guidance on how you can request a refund if you have purchased any tickets already.

What about events in local establishments, such as schools and local care homes?

Unfortunately, these events as part of the Gwyl Gerdd Dinas Powys Music Festival have also been cancelled.

Where we host concerts for groups such as schools and care homes, we provide transport to and from respective venues. As a result, we could risk further cross-contamination during transport and by mixing large numbers of people from various communities – which could include more vulnerable individuals – together.

Supporting the community through events such as the Friday Luncheon Club Concert and Ukulele Nights means a lot to us, and we are particularly saddened that we have had to forfeit these concerts this year. We hope we can find a way to reach these members of our community through other means once the immediate threat of COVID-19 has passed.

If you are a regular member/attendee at one of the external groups/organisations, please check with them directly if they are still meeting – these are completely separate to the Gwyl Gerdd Dinas Powys Music Festival.

I’ve purchased tickets for an event this year. Can I get a refund?

Yes. Full refunds will be provided for all ticket purchases.

Any tickets purchased online or over the phone will be refunded automatically – you do not need to get in touch unless you do not receive a refund by 1st April 2020.

If you purchased tickets using cash or cheque, you will need to contact us to request your refund. Please email info@dpmusfest.co.uk to arrange your refund. Please note, refunds requests will need to be submitted by 1 July 2020 latest.

I signed up to be a Patron for this year’s Festival. What happens now?

All Patrons have been contacted with regard to their subscription fee and ticket purchases.

Please contact info@dpmusfest.co.uk for further information.

I’ve requested a refund. When will I get my money back?

This is an unprecedented situation, and we are working hard to process refunds as quickly as possible.

Please contact info@dpmusfest.co.uk if you have not received your full refund by 1 July 2020.

Will there be a Gwyl Gerdd Dinas Powys Music Festival in 2021?

Yes! In fact we hope to hold some events sooner to continue our 20th Anniversary celebrations in 2020, COVID-19 permitting.

We will be back and bigger than ever at the first available opportunity. Make sure you join our mailing list to receive updates and find out the latest Festival news.
