Event Information

This year, the Dinas Powys Music Festival will be repeating the popular vocal workshop that was introduced last year – but with an added twist! There will be the opportunity not only to learn some musical themed songs, but also for attendees to star in the “Festival Choir” and perform in the evening production of “A Night at the Musicals” with Lucie Jones.

We are delighted to welcome Pete Mitchell back to the Festival. The workshop is open to all levels whether you sing regularly, perhaps as a member of a local choir or vocal group, or whether you simply enjoy singing and would just like to ‘have a go’. The event offers an opportunity to develop your vocal skills with like-minded singers in a relaxed and fun environment, and this year we have arranged a treat!

At the end of the workshop the group will join Lucie Jones to rehearse a number they have worked on during the afternoon and to then perform it with her at the evening concert. Don’t worry, Pete will be staying on to conduct so you’ll be in safe hands. (If, however, you are unable to stay for the evening performance just let us know at the start of the workshop.) Materials will be provided so no pre-workshop preparation is needed – just turn up and enjoy!

Pete Mitchell is an inspirational vocal coach, pianist, arranger, and musical director. He has worked closely with Gareth Malone (The Choir Series 2012-2018) and was pianist on Gareth’s 2017 UK tour with The Swingle Singers. Other credits include, The One Show, Children In Need, London Palladium Pantomime 2017/18 and 2018/19, Sister Act (UK Tour), 42nd Street (UK Tour), Oklahoma! (UK & European Tour) and Twist & Shout (UK Tour). Pete has worked with many vocal groups including The Hackney Singers, Lewisham Choral Society, Ex Cathedra, Royal Opera House (Education) and The Fleet Singers. He is currently Assistant Musical Director of the CITI Choir and teaches at the Emil Dale Academy.
